Prince’s The Day After: Impact Wrestling Against All Odds 2022

The complete breakdown of Impact’s special event starting the month of July.

Good day, readers! Prince Osborne here back again with another addition to my series “The Day After” where this entry emanates from Impact Wrestling after their stellar nostalgic run in Slammiversary.

The Countdown:

Singles Match: Laredo Kid vs. Black Taurus w/Crazzy Steve

Black Taurus def. Laredo Kid by pinfall at 7:43

A scintillating sprint that gave me mad vibes of Lesnar/Bálor & Mysterio/Angle. Both have tremendous chemistry and displayed a feisty dose of action while maintaining the rapid pace perfectly. Even though being an exhibition, this match surely could’ve left more impact had it happen on the main lineup.

Dot Combat Match | Impact Digital Media Championship: Rich Swann (C) vs. Brian Myers

Brian Myers def. Rich Swann by pinfall at 10:17

A charismatic entertainer and a better rematch from Slammiversary. Both improved their chemistry very well and the addition of digital media weapons increased the quality of the match as well as the entertainment value. Myers winning the title completes The Major Players’ circle of being the talkative duo even though one half of it is nursing at home.

Tag Team Match: Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. Bullet Club (Ace Austin & Chris Bey)

Motor City Machine Guns def. Bullet Club (Chris Sabin def. Chris Bey by pinfall) at 13:20

Marvelous starter between four of the absolute best in the league right now. The first excursion of Ace & Bey as a tag team is a grand success as they faced the iconic MCMG in what would be under the tussle of best tag matches of the year undoubtedly. The chemistry was incredible and every move was executed with finesse (Ha! ) and fierce. I would love to see a series of matches between these two for a while that could lead up to something huge.

Rating: 4.5/5

Tag Team Match: Mickie James & Mia Yim vs. Deonna Purrazzo & Chelsea Green

Deonna Purrazzo & Chelsea Green def. Mickie James & Mia Yim (Chelsea Green def. Mickie James by pinfall) at 9:03

A pretty decent tag match that showcased the newly teamed duo of James & Mia who had really good synergy as well as reestablishing Deonna & Chelsea as a tag team. The action was on & off where many spots were misfired by both sides especially the end move. The heels winning adds value to them moving forward as a duo.

Rating: 2.5/5

Singles Match | Impact X-Division Championship: “Speedball” Mike Bailey (C) vs. Trey Miguel

Mike Bailey def. Trey Miguel by pinfall at 14:02

Another MOTY candidate from Impact between two of the best X-Division mavericks. Miguel had the edge to reclaim his title and brought the level of aggression like never before in his career while Bailey became the perfect equalizer for the intense challenger with a killer display of offense. Apart from their ring work & flawless chemistry, the story both men carried by winding one of the legs to each other & selling them till the end with great expressions was captivating. All it needed to give a full star montage was the time length. Had it been a bit longer, this match could’ve easily surpassed Alex Shelley vs. Jay White as my best Impact MOTY.

Tag Team Match | Impact Knockouts Tag Team Championships: Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie (C) vs. The Influence (Gisele Shaw & Tenille Dashwood)

Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie def. The Influence (Taya Valkyrie def. Tenille Dashwood by pinfall) at 8:59

This wasn’t an outright bad match but it wasn’t good either. Shaw replacing Rayne this time almost did good until the unfortunate attempt of a top rope dive. Keeping that misfire aside, the action was decent enough considering the talent involved.

Rating: 2.5/5

Ten Man Tag Team Match: Heath, The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) & America’s Most Wanted (James Storm & Chris Harris) vs. Honor No More (Eddie Edwards, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Kenny King & PCO) w/Vincent & Maria Kanellis-Bennett

Team Heath def. Honor No More (James Storm def. Kenny King by pinfall) at 15:16

This was a very good classic multi-man match with all the shenanigans aptly worked out while Harris & PCO did so better than expected considering their age bar. The pacing could’ve easily gave a slow burning feel but it wasn’t dull by any means. It was a really well worked fun match between a vile group and a collection of pretty good counterparts.

Clockwork Orange House of Fun Match: Sami Callihan vs. Moose

Moose def. Sami Callihan by pinfall at 17:32

A hazardous rematch from Slammiversary that happened in front of the eyes of the master of this crazy stipulation, Raven. These two notched their barbaric minds up through this match where berserk weaponry was utilized in the best way possible. Steve Maclin’s interference adds intrigue to his next move against Callihan while a definite Round Three awaits between these two down the line.

Rating: 4.25/5

Singles Match | Impact Knockouts Championship: Jordynne Grace (C) vs. Tasha Steelz w/Savannah Evans

Jordynne Grace def. Tasha Steelz by pinfall at 11:54

Huge props to Tasha for taking Grace to her limit and unleashing her freakish power. Also, that end move looked super nasty and I do hope that Tasha is doing fine after taking that hellacious bump. Coming to the match, it was a great first defence for Grace who’s boosted back to the top again and it looks great on her. Grace is a huge investment for Impact as she brings unprecedented action against anyone. Tasha gave a really good fight here with Savannah giving her share of shenanigans a bit much but was effective throughout.

Rating: 3.5/5

Singles Match | Impact World Championship: Josh Alexander (C) vs. Joe Doering w/Deaner

Josh Alexander def. Joe Doering by pinfall at 15:58

A great powerhouse collision to cap off another fantabulous night for Impact. Even though the chances are little, Doering gave the best performance of his Impact run. Alexander is proving show after show on why he deserved to be the world champion. Both delivered stiff exchanges to each other and the uphill struggle arc was nicely played out in favor of Alexander to cement him as an unstoppable gatekeeper of Impact. I’m a bit surprised to see EY absent in this match but it gives a meaningful story of him being pissed still.

Match of the Night:

FINAL VERDICT:

This was a scintillating event for Impact from top to bottom. Their progress is visibly pleasing and hopes are high on them being billed as one of the best promotions of the year. If this streak of consistency is maintained, Impact will surely find its resurgence and be the talk of the town.
