Why Logan Paul Is The Worst (& Best) Opponent For John Cena's Retirement Tour

Logan Paul is a name that constantly sends shivers of contempt throughout the WWE Universe, but love him or hate him, Logan Paul is an immensely talented in-ring competitor with tremendous athleticism. On the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, Logan Paul expressed his interest in challenging John Cena at the upcoming Clash In Paris Premium Live Event on August 31st (this writer's birthday).

The following is a list of some of the worst, as well as some of the best reasons why Logan Paul is facing John Cena, so let's get started:

Why He's The Worst Opponent: Logan Paul Hasn't Earned It

When we dream up what a John Cena Retirement Tour looks like, we think of Cena squaring off with the legends of the business, and the tour would be a great chance to ignite farewell feuds, the likes we've already seen when Cena faced Randy Orton at Backlash. Logan Paul is just not a superstar fans want to see, especially not against John Cena.

We'd hate it if Logan Paul makes a name off of John Cena's last hurrah, and for him to do so won't go down well with the WWE Universe at all. If we think about a "what have you done lately" scenario, then Logan Paul beating Jelly Roll at SummerSlam hardly makes him legendary and worthy of facing Cena.

Why He's The Best Opponent: Logan Paul Is The Perfect Counterpart

As mentioned, Logan Paul is hated and people don't want to see him hog the spotlight, but as a result this is the perfect reason why he should face Logan Paul.

Think about it, John Cena has just reverted back to his almighty fan-loving persona, and considering that he is the "GOAT" and the Never Seen Seventeen, he is still considered by many as the high exalted face of the WWE, then Logan Paul is the exact opposite of that-and this contrast is therefore the ultimate face versus heel showdown.

Why He's The Worst Opponent: There Hasn't Been Any Build

When it comes to a feud, build-up is very important. We know that Logan Paul teamed up with Cena at Money In The Bank not long ago, and they seemed like they were good buddies on the same page. Yes, there was some distension between the two and they lost that tag-team match, but there was not not enough of an indication to think they'd be engaging in a feud together.

Now Cena is back to his normal self, that seems like just enough of an excuse to book the two in a match together at Clash In Paris. All we see is Logan just waltzing into RAW and asking Cena for a match and that's it, no build-up or callbacks to Cena being a heel (besides Logan loosely acknowledging that he used to respect Cena), it just feels like a terrible surprise opponent rather than a gratifying choice.

Why He's The Best Opponent: Logan Paul Is An Interesting Athletic Challenge

Styles make fights in the UFC, but they also make great matches in the WWE. Logan Paul's athletic ability is always a highlight no matter what you think of the man, he brings it every single time, and should make you wonder if this match-up could be considered a classic after it is all said and done.

We've seen Cena and Paul as a team, which made sense to pour as much heat onto heel Cena as possible, but now the two are facing off, there's tremendous potential for an epic match here. Cena is often called "Big Match John" and Logan Paul is definitely a worthy dance partner for Cena because of his high-risk offence and underhanded tactics.

Why He's The Worst Opponent: There Are More Desirable Choices For Cena's Opponent At Clash In Paris

Why Logan Paul and why now? You may think that this match-up would be held off for Crown Jewel, seeing as Saudi Arabia seems like a fitting venue for such a bout between Cena and Paul.

What about a match with Dominik Mysterio? Yeah, we know he has a storyline with AJ Styles going, but the cockiness of Mysterio is a great ingredient to oppose Cena, not to mention that Dom holds the Intercontinental Championship, a title that Cena has never won in his illustrious career. Also, maybe a match with Bron Breakker or Bronson Reed to elevate their status and potentially make Seth Rollins a very happy man if they win against him. There are other options, but Logan Paul seems like a typical pick for Cena and that's not exciting enough-even if LP is going to be a great athletic challenge for Cena.

Why He's The Best Opponent: Logan Paul's Popularity

Logan Paul and John Cena are both extremely popular and they are box office, they will draw many eyes and make lots of money together-so the two are extremely well-matched to be taking on each other. You gotta get eyes on the product, and if Cena can kick Logan's behind, then we can go home happy, or otherwise celebrate Cena's as we watch through a TV screen.

However, Logan Paul winning would only boost his ego and bragging rights and will amplify his heel heat, so whatever happens there's a great sense that this match is going to be watched by many because of the enormity of the names involved.

Why He's The Worst Opponent: Can't Logan Paul Feud With Anyone Else?

cm punk doctor of thuganomics john cena feud 2025 wwe

Sooner or later Logan Paul and John Cena would clash, and indeed that is the case now concerning the Clash in Paris PLE. However, Logan Paul can stick his nose anywhere and he'll be must-watch TV (yes please reign those boos down), so couldn't he become another El Grande Americano and tamper with the lives of the Luchas? Logan Paul already rested the United States title away from Rey Mysterio, so he could've donned the mask already worn by Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser-it'd be the perfect role for Logan-and maybe fans would have a hard time figuring out he's under the mask.

Perhaps CM Punk would be just as great of a choice of opponent for Logan Paul as John Cena too. Punk is now embroiled in this spicy Fatal 4 Way match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash In Paris, but Logan Paul would be an excellent fork-in-the-road opponent for Punk-especially if Paul can get in the way of Punk getting his hands on Rollins or Paul Heyman.

Why He's The Best Opponent: A Good Opportunity For A Lengthy Feud

Yes, we know Cena hasn't got many dates left for his Retirement Tour, but this doesn't mean one or two more matches can't be put together after their meeting at Clash in Paris. If Cena wins, he can move merrily along to the next challenger, but if he loses he has time to seek redemption, and that is certainly what we could see.

Maybe we don't want to see John Cena versus Logan Paul more than once, but Cena has faced adversity before, and if LP beats him at Clash in Paris, a rematch gives Cena the chance to bounce back in a big way, and we should certainly enjoy that.

Why He's The Worst Opponent: We Just Don't Want To See Logan Paul

wwe fans crowd universe booing boos hate

Some fans just genuinely hate Logan Paul and everything he stands for, and his heel heat isn't just character heat-it's full-on "I hate this person" kind of heat. Yes, WWE leverage this heat to great affect, but many would rather not want an overblown narcissist on their TV screens or live in the arena. Of course, the best way to let WWE know that we don't want to see Logan Paul is by not reacting to him, but fans are just too vocal and Logan's influence as a social media megastar is too great to ignore.

However, heels like the aforementioned Dominik Mysterio are the kind we want to see because we want to know how sneaky they'll be and as much as Dom is sold as an arrogant bad boy, in reality we love him and we acknowledge the character work with him is amazing. Logan Paul almost has something akin to "go away" heat, and thus we'd rather not see him at all.

Why He's The Best Opponent: Logan Paul Has Put In The Effort

This may contradict the first reason why Logan Paul shouldn't face Cena on Cena's Retirement Tour because of the acknowledgment that Logan Paul has put in the effort and has perhaps "earned" this feud as well, but that point was situated within the context of storylines, and this point is about Logan Paul's dedication in general.

Logan Paul has worked very hard to be the sensation he is, whether it is through social media or as a wrestler in the WWE. You know when you watch a Logan Paul bout there will be a ton of intrigue, a must-watch match, and Logan Paul sells brilliantly with his audacious moveset. Logan Paul's heel work has been excellent and that is why he merges so well with John Cena and his Retirement Tour.
