WWE Backlash 2025 Predictions

Howdy, fans of wrestling! Prince Osborne here, back after a long time with a predictions article surrounding WWE's upcoming PLE, Backlash, that is bound to be a fantastic show for the St. Louis faithful with a stacked card.

United States Championship Fatal Four Way Match: Jacob Fatu [C] vs. LA Knight vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest

It's the Samoan Werewolf's world, and we're all living in it! Since his WWE debut, Jacob has been on a white-hot streak by gaining the fans' attention naturally through immaculate in-ring and character work. If that didn't impress anyone, his performance against LA Knight at WrestleMania 41 certainly did. It was such a dominant showing despite Knight not losing his stand easily. Now that Jacob has some gold around his waist, there are loads of options to become his first test in this US title run, but we've gotten ourselves the rematch with a nice twist - the addition of Drew McIntyre & Damian Priest, two bitter rivals who are far from over.

Even though this match feels like a textbook mashup of two different rivalries under a single roof, the in-ring caliber will rarely fail to disappoint & the US title's prestige needed a match like this. However, it's too early to take the title off Fatu despite the contenders being physically equalled to the champion. I'd love to see more of Fatu with the title around himself, wreaking havoc and potentially breaking the shackles off The Bloodline for a much-deserved solo prospect act.

Prediction: Jacob Fatu

Intercontinental Championship Match: Dominik Mysterio [C] vs. Penta

The four-way miracle at 'Mania had anyone to take the IC title home, and the fans would've felt as valid as it should've been. But what we witnessed was a fantastic moment where Dominik Mysterio pulled off the ultimate shocker and became the new champion. Seeing the organic rise of "Dirty" Dom from a white-meat babyface tagging alongside his father, the legendary Rey Mysterio, to becoming one of the beloved heels in the company was exceptional to the point where his celebration after the title victory looked like a sensational reception for Dom to the next stage in his career.

Now that he has the crown, there has to be a strong first impression in proving why he needed the crown over anybody else in that four-way. Having his first title defense against Penta on Raw after 'Mania felt like a test for a much bigger match down the line, and it seems that the said match is locked in for Backlash. As much as I'd like to see Penta's quick ascension meet its first huge reward, it's too early for Dom to lose the title just like Jacob Fatu previously. Also, the underlying story between AJ Styles & The Judgment Day has piqued a lot of interest, which could result in a potential showdown between Styles & Dom. If that's the case, I want (and predict) Dom to retain the title so that his dynamic could clash wonderfully with Styles' veteran mentality for a fun story.

Prediction: Dominik Mysterio

Singles Match: Pat McAfee vs. Gunther

Since losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at 'Mania, there has been a lot of discourse over the result and the next path for Gunther to take. As the cowardly heel he was painted for the past few months, he took out his frustrations on the commentary desk, resulting in almost choking out Michael Cole and physically hurting Pat McAfee, who tried to save his partner. This ended up in both men beginning to hate each other, and set for a collision course at Backlash.

As said before, there's a huge discourse in Gunther's booking, but I like this as he needs to show a variety of emotions and patterns of his villainism to sustain as a main event player. A match like this would certainly help to achieve that goal or take the first step in doing that, at least. Despite being a fun character and an impressive in-ring performer, I expect to see Pat McAfee get crashed and burned by the WWE's Ring General.

Prediction: Gunther

Women's Intercontinental Championship Match: Lyra Valkyria [C] vs. Becky Lynch

It's been a commendable career for Lyra Valkyria in WWE so far, and everyone can agree on that. From defeating Becky Lynch for the NXT Women's Championship over a year ago to facing her again in possibly the biggest match of her career, Lyra has improved leaps and bounds from that sweet moment as a rookie to the point where she went neck-to-neck against Becky in a promo battle on Raw. Her run as the first IC champion has been very impressive and fit the bill of how an IC champion works - being active on weekly TV and defending the title against quality opponents.

Unfortunately, with the recent set of releases from WWE, the division has become a bit thinner than before. Even though there are call-ups from NXT as well as the Draft soon, it'll take a lot of time to rebuild the division. Hence, having Lyra as the champion would start to lose steam not only on her run, but also on herself, possibly. It was obvious since her return and the immediate heel turn that Becky is bound to take the title off Lyra so that the latter could revitalize as a beloved hero while The Man could give a fantastic run week in and week out as the champion by potentially having great matches against old foes and new skin of contenders.

Prediction: Becky Lynch

Undisputed WWE Championship Match: John Cena [C] vs. Randy Orton

Even though the finish of Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena at 'Mania 41 left fans scratching their heads and a lot of what-ifs and buts, it seemed that the show went on without giving a proper closure for that by introducing one of the highly anticipated opponents in Cena's farewell tour immediately. As one could expect this match to be the final nail in Cena's coffin, letting it happen this early gives a clear idea that things are set to be even bigger and more nostalgic.

Unlike the rest of the card, these two men didn't need much time to build a story or develop hatred as enemies. They've done the same years ago and easily rekindled that spark in an enticing promo war on SmackDown. Give me all of the glitz and glamour over here - the incredible hometown entrance for Orton, Cena experiencing One Night Stand '06 all over again, the callbacks to their history of great matches, and a massive finish that'll "ruin" wrestling as Cena planned all along. I'm mentally prepared for a wild ride of emotions with the amount of nostalgia this match holds, and as much as I'd love to see Orton become the ultimate dethroner, #17 is still far from over for Cena.

Prediction: John Cena
